Colin Firth in Pride and Prejudice 1995

“My good opinion once lost, is lost forever”

When Jane Austen penned Pride and Prejudice in the 19th century, she probably never imagined it would become a beloved classic. The 1995 limited series adaptation is arguably the best version, and I’m sure many would agree.

Colin Firth embodies Mr. Darcy to perfection (despite his real-life aunt’s misgivings as heard in the Graham Norton show), while Jennifer Ehle’s Elizabeth Bennet is both believable and relatable. The supporting cast does a fantastic job bringing the novel to life—Lady Catherine de Bourgh, for instance, is so convincingly meddlesome that you’ll love to hate her.

If you’re a true romance fan and haven’t seen this adaptation yet, I give you full permission to stop reading this article and rectify that mistake immediately!

2. A Julia Roberts Movie Marathon

Richard Gere and Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman

“If I forget to tell you later, I had a really good time tonight”

Pretty Woman (1990) – This Cinderella love story has stood the test of time. We root for this most improbable couple.  And Who can resist Vivian’s iconic “Big mistake. Huge!” moment? as she waltzes her way out of that upscale boutique
Julia Roberts and Colin Firth in Notting Hill
“I’m just a girl standing in front of a boy asking him to love her”
Notting Hill (1999) – The roles are reversed as Julia plays a world-famous actress who falls for a humble bookstore owner (Hugh Grant). The British humour is as always uptight, awkward and totally hilarious.
Julia Roberts in Eat, Pray and Love

Pray, Eat and Love

Eat Pray Love (2010) – A journey of self-discovery, this film makes a strong case for taking a gap year (or more) to eat, pray, and love. Isn’t that a schedule we all deserve?

3. The Bridget Jones Franchise

I am Bridget Jones. I own it. You are Bridget Jones. We all are Bridget Jones. This unapologetically vulnerable heroine invites us into her beautifully chaotic world, making this franchise an all-time favourite:

Rénée Zellweger, Hugh Grant and Colin Firth in Bridget Jones Edge of Reason

“I like you very much … just like you are.”

Bridget Jones’s Diary (2001) – Enjoy watching Bridget have a go at love with the highly unreliable boss, Daniel, and the brooding Mr. Darcy (yes, another character inspired by Jane Austen).
Bridget Jones:  The Edge of Reason (2004) – Struggle with her as she discovers the hard way that love isn’t always smooth sailing…

Bridget Jones’s Baby (2016) –Introducing Patrick Dempsey, where you’ll laugh along with Bridget as her free-spirited nature leads to an unexpected pregnancy and heartwarming moments.

Bridget Jones : Mad about the boy promo photo

Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy (upcoming) – Now what kind of emotions this new instalment will stir in us? —I’m certainly expecting lots of laughter and romance galore!

4. Emily in Paris

Emily in Paris poster

“Not choosing is still a choice.”

Paris. Need I say more?

This Netflix serie is a dazzling mix of haute couture, old-money elegance, and really, really good-looking men (including a charming chef).

Emily, a marketing executive from Chicago, arrives in the City of Love for what was supposed to be a short-term project—only to realize that Paris is meant to be savored, not rushed. Her fairy-tale-like journey through Europe is nothing short of delightful.

5. Business Proposal (2022)

Korean Business Proposal
“Do you know what this credit card and my love have in common? They are both unlimited”

A contract.

Clearly defined terms.

Mutual benefits.

But did they account for love?

In this quirky and utterly addictive K-drama, a CEO and his employee enter a fake dating contract—but things don’t go as planned when real feelings start to develop. Business Proposal is an over-the-top romantic comedy that will have you laughing, swooning, and completely hooked.Tempting huh?
